HAIFA HILLEL

Haifa Hillel is a unique community-based center, serving the universities and college campuses in the city of Haifa. Haifa Hillel invites you to visit our center at Beit Hecht in the Carmel, and participate in a variety of programs on campus and in the dormitories of Haifa University and the Technion, or initiate some ideas of your own!

Haifa Hillel is directed by David Barak-Gorodetsky. Progarm coordinators at Haifa University and the Technion engage students to participate in campus programs, as well as programs at the Chais Hillel Center on Mount Carmel.

See our Hebrew website for more information about Haifa Hillel programs. The following is a sampling:

Chaim Be'seret: Issues in Jewish Identity - A film series combined with guest speakers on relevant Jewish topics. Monthly meetings centered on the Jewish and Israeli calendar.

Jewish Social Leadership - A program that brings students from a variety of backgrounds to learn together about social justice issues and do volunteer work in the community.

Speaking Poetry (Yedidi haShachachta?!) - Introducing piyut to the student population by bringing popular Israeli musicians and a leading paytan (singer of traditional melodies) together to share in an evening of music and song from a variety of cultural traditions. The annual Shabbat Piyut takes place in the spring, with famous paytanim.

Derech Eretz Insights on Israel - Familiarizes students with the Land of Israel, its history, and traditions. Students participate in tiyulim (hikes) in northern Israel and learn about each site's historical and Jewish significance.

Beit Midrash It's a Matter of Time - A group of students meet regularly to learn about the cycle of the Jewish year and design meaningful holiday programs for their campus communities.

An Island of Tzedek - Students work to raise public awareness of social issues.
